Norfolk Conservatives pledge £10 million to take real action to defend our coastline and prevent inland flooding.
This massive investment will help step in where the government has failed to help coastal communities. We cannot allow our coast - our county and our country - to disappear into the sea. Coastal erosion and inland flooding is blighting the lives of many communities.
Councillor James Bensley, Norfolk County Council Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:
“This is a massive investment in defending our coastal communities. With my own business in Hemsby I’ve seen at close hand how we’ve been let down by this government, so it’s being left to local authorities to step in. That’s what Norfolk Conservatives plan to do!”
“In addition to flood prevention, we are putting nature at the heart of everything we do. We have already planted 850,000 trees and will reach our 1 million target. We are also working with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust to enhance our natural habitat. That is why we are opposing pylons and solar farms on Norfolk’s productive land. Covering our countryside with solar farms will damage our environment.”
